Can you see what is happening while surgery is being done on your eye?

Sounds horrible, doesn't it? Actually, once the eye is completely numbed, what you see is mostly abstract: a colorful light show, waves of fluid, a bright overhead light, and some dull pressure is felt from time to time. You really don't see anything sharp coming at you or that sort of thing.
