LASIK Post Operative Instructions
What To Expect
- Post-operative pain after LASIK may be more than you expected. The most common complaints are tearing, runny nose, burning, stinging, scratchiness, mild swelling and redness of the eye.
- Your eyes may be sensitive to light for several weeks after surgery. Wearing sunglasses is usually sufficient to relieve any discomfort.
What To Do
- It is important that you keep your eyes closed and lubricated with Celluvisc as much as possible for the first four hours after surgery, even during your ride home.
- Take both tablets of Darvocet with food within 30-45 minutes after surgery. You may also take over-the-counter Ibuprofen (Advil) or Acetaminophen (Tylenol) as needed.
- After surgery you should relax and can have something to eat and drink.
- You may use lubricating eye drops as often as needed to relieve any sensation of scratchiness.
- On the night of surgery take a Dalmane sleeping pill before going to bed.
- On the day of surgery begin the eye drops using the instructions stated below and try to take at least a 2-4 hour nap. Resume the eye drop schedule as directed when awaking from the nap.
- Wear the eye shield all day the day of surgery and, while sleeping, for the first 3 days following your surgery.
- Once your surgery is complete do not drive or operate machinery until the following morning.
